Functional and Sculptural Ceramics,
both Wheelthrown and Handbuilt
Susanna Kopchains, a native of New Jersey, graduated from the University of Vermont in 1987 with a BA in Studio Art, and received an MFA in Graphic Design from RIT in 1989. She worked in the advertising field for ten years before choosing to stay home to raise her children. Creating art in all mediums since childhood, Susanna reignited her interest in clay after she married. Over the last eight years, she has taken ceramics classes at Raritan Valley Community College, and the Center for Contemporary Art, as well as other workshops. Her work has been shown in both juried and non-juried shows. Primarily a ceramic artist focusing on functional ware, Susanna has begun to dive into the sculptural world of ceramics. She is inspired by worn, aged, rusted items, as well as textures, shapes and patterns she sees while in the great outdoors. She lives in Basking Ridge, NJ with her husband, two children, and dog.
